Description |
American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) are securities issued by an American bank that represent ownership of non-US securities. The ADR facility allows foreign companies to raise capital and have their stock trade in the US market, while providing US investors the ability to purchase foreign stocks with the convenience of settling their trades in US dollars and accordance with US settlement practices. It is the role of the ADR group to "bridge" the foreign and US market by processing the cross-border flow of investment between the ADR form in the US and the ordinary share form traded in the local markets. To accomplish the above, the ADR group maintains a network of 75 custodians in 35 countries to facilitate settlement of the foreign segment of ADR transactions, a direct account with the Depository Trust Company for US settlements and the services of an external stock transfer agent under a private label agreement.
